Mangaluru: The experimental setup of new technology for the aviation safety and air traffic control service has started functioning. A fully equipped tower which was built at the cost of Rs 20 crore has started its functioning to experiment the pros and cons of the unit.
MIA Director J T Radhakrihna has said that this unit will help to control the aviation safrty and air traffic. Equipments from the old office were transferred to the new tower in various stages.
The construction work of the tower was commenced on January 10 and ANS equipments were transferred to it. This tower has the capacity to control the air traffic till 250 nautical miles. This will help to keep an eye on arriving and departing flights from the MIA.
Radhakrihna further said that the installation work of all the equipments were done by the engineers of Indian Aviation Authority.
