Mangalore: The city auto rickshaw drivers’ union today asked Subhod Yadav, not to allow permit-holding drivers usually outside the city limits to ply their vehicles inside (zone 1) MCC limits too. They handed several memoranda to the DC on Tuesday (Jan.11) seeking reversal of a new decision allowing outside vehicles to run on MCC roads. The Dc agreed to reconsider the new decision as the RTA Chief in D.K.
The city auto-rickshaw drivers referred to the traffic woes on the dug-out roads in city and warned that if more vehicles are added to the density, situation could go out of hand.
The outsiders, who were in rural areas earlier, came within city limits as the city had expanded, so they were treated as insiders in zone 1(city area). Those rural permit holders (prior to 01-07-1997) were not allowed by a previous DC (V.Ponnuraj) to ply vehicles in city limits. But the MCC area had expanded to include certain rural permit-holders as city dwellers.
