Mangaluru: Mangaluru auto rickshaw drivers are planning to adapt cashless transactions soon. They are waiting to be upgraded with the technology as well as for the permission from the concerned authorities.
Addressing reporters in Mangaluru, autorickshaw union leader Ashok Shetty said that the union wants to install GPS and to display advertisements on autorickshaws. Authorities have been approached with this regard and have sought for the permission from RTO.
Facilitating autorickshaws with GPS will provide greater security to passengers as well as the drivers. By displaying advertisement, each driver will get an extra income of Rs 1,500 a month. However, permission is yet to be granted by the authorities.
Stating that there are plans for the autorickshaw drivers’ union to go cashless in the days to come, there are certain criteria to be fulfilled and one of them is having the GPS enabled in the vehicles. In order to implement the cashless services, there is a requirement of a minimum of 500 autorickshaws enabled with GPS in the district.
