Mangaluru: Newly sanctioned post graduate Geography Department was inaugurated at Mangalagangothri campus of Mangalore University on Friday. Dr P Bore Gowda IAS (Retd), inaugurated the department in an event presided by Prof. K Byrappa, Vice Chancellor, Mangalore University.

Geography department coordinator Dr. Dasharatha P. Angadi opined that the new programme on Geography is going to be a big leap for the geographical research in the Coastal Karnataka as it is the first PG department on geography in coastal Karnataka.

Prof. K Byrappa delivering his address stressed on the need of having geography education at higher level and agreed upon the idea of starting geography courses at undergraduate level in the colleges coming under the jurisdiction of the university.

He informed the audiences that soon he will call upon the principals of the various colleges and will press upon the demand to start geography subject.
