Mangaluru: Members of Netravati Samrakshana Samithi along with various organisations, leaders from various spheres of the society have started unto death fast from Friday before Dakshina Kannada DC office located in Mangaluru city urging the state government to stop Yettinahole project. The fasting will continue until the government stops the project.

Leaders from political parties, religious organisations, people of Dakshina Kannada and others have already supported unto death fast.

Speaking on the Yettinahole project, Odiyuru seer Gurudevananda Swamiji said, no one objects the decision to provide drinking water from river Netravati to Kolar and its neighboring districts. However, the Yettinahole project being implemented by the state government is unscientific and will destroy river Netravati and ecological balance of Western Ghats. Netravati river is very likely to be dry up and also the beneficiaries of the project won’t get water from the river, if the project is implemented, he said.
