Manipal: “Pakistan has been continuing genocide in Balochistan and a huge pressure on Pakistan at international level is necessary to liberate Balochistan from Pakistan immediately,” said Prof. Naela Quadri Baloch, President, World Baloch Women’s Forum delivering her address on ‘Genocide in Balochistan by Pakistan and its Implication’ on Thursday evening at Manipal University in Manipal. The lecture was organised by the Department of Geopolitics and International Relations of Manipal University.
Delivering her lecture she said, she has been campaigning against ongoing genocide in Balochistan by visiting various countries of the world to gain their support in the issue. People of Balochistan have been fighting for independence since 1949 and have been continuing with their fight. Balochistan constitutes around 52% of the total region of Pakistan. As many as 30,000 people including women and children have been found missing since 2006 in Balochistan amid human slaughter by terrorist groups and Pakistan government. However, human rights groups including, Amnesty International hasn’t yet spoken anything on the issue, she added.
Balochistan is one among four states of Pakistan and present Balochistan local government is formed only by 3% of the total votes casted as Baloch people have been refusing to cast their votes in the elections, she pointed out.
At present, Pakistan is establishing China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and as a result of the agreement the Chinese have been establishing their settlements at a cost of $52 million every year in Balochistan. This has raised human slaughter further in Balochistan in recent years. Pakistan has joined its hands with China to implement various projects in the country even if China has destroyed more than 5, 000 mosques in recent years.
Expects Support from US
“Pakistan is a failed state as its hasn’t achieved nothing after 1947 as far as industry, agriculture, economy and others are concerned. The United States hasn’t yet supported Balochistan movement. However, I hope that newly elected US president would extent his hand to support oppressed Baloch people,” said Prof. Naela Quadri Baloch showing her trust with the US.
Prof Naela Quadri Baloch is currently the President of World Baloch Women’s Forum, established to protect Baloch national rights. Fighting for women and human rights is Naela’s life style since her childhood. The day that turned Naela’s face towards the outer world for a well-planned support mechanism to liberate Balochistan was January 2, 2010 when her home was surrounded by huge number of forces from Pakistan’s army to arrest, torture and dump her. However, she somehow escaped and crossed Afghanistan border and since then she has been lobbying for her cause across the world.
