Mangaluru: Airports Authority of India (AAI) has approved plan for the construction of part parallel taxi track (Phase-II) and upgrading of basic strip at south direction of the Mangaluru international airport in Mangaluru. The work order has been placed before PBI Construction Company. The total cost of the work is estimated at Rs 98 crores. The works are likely to be completed within 30 months.
The total extension of taxiway track is being built to an extent of 1200 metre. Taxiway is the stretch or the track connecting the runway with the apron (parking stand for Aircrafts) in the terminal building.
Under phase-I, taxi track of 1200m has already been completed and waiting for DGCA clearance to start its operations. With the construction of the parallel taxi-way, aircraft could move from the parking stand, wait in the additional taxiway and enter the runway for take-off immediately. This additional taxiway particularly helps in the long run when the numbers of flights increase in the airport.
