Mangaluru: MLA JR Lobo has directed the concerned authorities to drill 33 borewells in the city to prevent water scarcity in Mangaluru city area limits. The decision was made in a meeting of Water Task force held at MLA’s office located in Kadri of the city on Tuesday.

Speaking in the meeting, the MLA said that “the water level at Thumbe vented dam has fallen to 4.3 meter and the water level is very likely to come down within days. Therefore borewells are the need of the hour.” He also asked the officials to utilize the water from open wells, borewells of the city as a substitute to the water from Thumbe vented dam. All these works should be carried out immediately to prevent adverse impact of water scarcity in the city amid hot summer. For the timebeing, as many as 133 borewells can supply water in the city whereas 85 borewells have remained as useless in Mangaluru city area limits.
