Mangaluru : After creating uproar at the Police Commissioner’s office, the police resorted to lathi charge at Popular Front of India(PFI) activists near Mangaluru Police Commissioner’s office on Tuesday, April 04.
Ahmed Khureshi who was hospitalised after the arrest had reportedly suffered police atrocities that, PFI activist marched Mangaluru Police Commissioner’s office demanding justice.
A year after the murder of Prakash Poojary under Suratkal police limits the PFI district vice-president Khader Kulai, who is another accused in the case and is absconding, should not be arrested. Ahmed Qureshi, resident of Katipalla, who was arrested in the case to immediate released.
Ahmed Qureshi’s parents alleged that their son was arrested from near the district court and was tortured on the pretext of questioning. He was then admitted to Wenlock Hospital. The parents said that the doctors told them then Ahmed’s kidney was not functioning.
It is said the activists had not obtained any prior permission from the police to conduct the protest. The activists pelted stones at the Commissioner’s office, Seven police personnel, including two assistant commissioners and one inspector, were injured in stone throwing and manhandling by PFI activists. One of the PFI activists received head injuries during the lathi charge. Police arrested 72 activists and detained them at Urva Police Station.
