Udupi : The Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat on Tuesday approved a draft policy, “Swachh Nithi-2017” focussing implementation of ban on plastic at the gram panchayat level at a special meeting convened for the purpose here.

Speaking on the occasion, panchayat Chief Executive Officer M.R. Ravi said that suggestions from members, including installation of CCTV cameras to prevent dumping of waste, funds for effective implementation of plastic ban, would be incorporated in the policy.

He said that two eco toilets would be constructed on the panchayat premises at a cost of Rs 5 lakh. Also, bio-gas units would be installed at 133 hostels in the district at a cost of Rs 57 lakh.

Panchayat president Meenakshi Shanthigodu, vice-president Kasturi Panja, standing committee chairpersons Asha Thimmappa, Shahul Hameed and Sarvottama Gowda were present.
