Udupi : A nodal officer has been appointed to look into the process of giving away the houses to the eligible beneficiaries, said District In-charge Minister Pramod Madhwaraj.
Speaking at a taluk panchayat review meeting, the minister said 911 beneficiaries have been selected in Udupi Assembly constituency. The zilla panchayat planning director Nayana has been appointed as the nodal officer. Measures will be taken to process the houses immediately to all these beneficiaries. He directed the officials to provide details of the available land and the shortcomings by 20 days.
The minister said the beneficiary will be selected through lottery. In the first phase, the names in the list ‘A’ will be offered houses. He instructed the City Municipal Corporation (CMC) commissioner to build flats for 595 beneficiaries in CMC limits. He said that if at all the beneficiaries prefer rural areas, houses will be allotted in the rural areas.
Regarding the water scarcity in the district, the minister said the officials should make arrangements for the tanker water supply for the areas where the water is not supplied.
He said that bills should be disposed within 24 hours to the water suppliers at gram panchayat-level. This would enable the supply of water on time. The failure will result in disciplinary action against the officers, he warned.
He said the gram panchayat should make prior arrangements for tanker water before actually facing the drought. The public should not be made to suffer, he said. There is no dearth of funds for the supply of water, he assured and added that the public grievances should be addressed immediately.
The water is already provided by tanker in the areas like Ambalpadi, Cherkadi, Haradi, Kalianapur and Kokkarne. Madhwaraj also reviewed the work progress of the projects taken up under KUDCEMP at a cost of Rs 102 crore. He also instructed Deputy Commissioner Priyanka Mary Francis to make a follow-up of the work progress. He warned action against people who pump water from the rivers.
