Mangaluru : Karnataka Raknasha Vedike staged a protest against Kerala government’s move to make Malayalam compulsory in its schools Kasaragod.
The activist forcibly closed the Karnataka-Kerala border road at Talapady on Thursday June 8 . The vehicular movement blocked on roads at Talapady sometime and the protestors raised the slogans against Kerala government.
Vishwa prasanna Swamiji of pejavar matt flagged off the rally from clock tower near the service bus stand in Udupi on morning and the rally moved via Padubidri, Mangaluru, and Talapady.
Speaking on the occasion Vedike’s state president, Praveen Kumar Shetty, said that Kerala government forcibly imposed Malayalam on Kannadigas living in Kasargod. Karnataka has been supporting Malayalam, here Malayalees can choose the language of their liking, he added.
He also warned Karnataka Bandh to be held on June 12 in support Kerala Kannadigas.
The police arrested Kannada activists Vatal Nagaraj, Sa Ra Govind, Praveen Shetty and several others.
Vatal Nagaraj, Prasannakumar Shetty, state convener of the Vedike, district president, Ansar Ahmed, Nityananda Olakadu of Hiriya Nagarikara Vedike, and others were present.
