Mangaluru : Police have filed First Information Report (FIR) against several persons, including BJP and Bajrang Dal leaders, on charges of conspiracy and instigating violence during the funeral procession of slain RSS worker Sharath Madiwala.
Charges have been filed against more than 20 persons in Bantwal town police station. They include BJP state Backward Class Morcha secretary Satyajit Surathkal, Bajrang Dal convener Sharan Pumpwell, Bajrang Dal leader Pradeep Pumpwell, BJP Yuva Morcha district unit president Harish Poonja and Bajrang Dal Dakshin Pranth Goraksha Pramukh Muralikrishna Hasanthadka. They are at large.
The charges have been framed against them under IPC Section 308 (Attempt to commit culpable homicide), 143 (Unlawful assembly), 147 (Rioting), 148 (Rioting, armed with deadly weapon), 353 (Assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 504 (Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), 427 (Mischief causing damage) and 188 (Disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) and others.
All the charges were framed for creating trouble during Sharath Madiwala’s funeral procession between Kaikamba and B C Road.
SP C H Sudheer Kumar Reddy said, the police have filed charges against those who violated the ban order and conspired to create unrest in the society. Police teams have been formed to search all the accused, he added.
Meanwhile, more than 50 police personnel raided the residence of Satyajit late on Sunday night and searched for him. However, he could not be traced.
“The police have launched a manhunt in Surathkal region to trace the prime accused in the case related to stone pelting during the funeral procession,” the SP said and added that the police could not trace that person. But the search is on.
