Mangaluru : Mayor Kavitha Sanil along with DCP Hanumantharaya and ACP (traffic) Tilakchandra and other MCC officials inspected the illegal parkings, sign boards and street vendors on footpaths.
The team inspected the route from PVS circle to State Bank and acted firmly against illegal parking, petty shops and street vendors on footpaths on July 26, Wednesday.
Several street vendors evicted from the footpath at Hampankatta, Maidan Road and State bank area. Some of the street vendors and petty shop owners were told to remove their businesses, and warned they are not allowed to Infiltration of footpaths.
The street vendors at State Bank staged a flash protest as the mayor and her team moved to evict the encroachments on the footpaths. Nearly a hundred people gathered at the spot and shouted slogans against the MCC for trying to evict them.
Speaking to reporters, the mayor Kavita sanil said, Many complaints have been received by pedestrians about the petty shops and vendors on footpaths, we strictly instructed illegal parkings, sign board and encroachments on footpaths. Most of the petty shops and street vendors have been cleared, she said.
Street vendors make difficult for pedestrians to walk on the footpaths in state bank and Lady Ghoshen. There is also foul smell in the area because of their businesses. she said.
Mangalore city corporation commissioner Mohammed Nazir said, We have provided separate space for street vendors, they are not making use of it. We have given identity cards to 208 vendors to run their businesses. If they not used the separate street vendors zone we will cancel the identity cards, he said.
