Mangaluru: Two accused convicted in murder attempt on BJP leader, former Beary Sahitya Academy President Rahim Uchil, and other five acquitted by a local court here on Thursday in Mangaluru city.
The two convicted Mohammed Rafiq alias Appi (33), a resident of KC Road near Ullal and Abdul Basheer (31), a native of Surathkal and other five were booked under murder attempt case after the 7 accused brutally assaulted the victim using deadly weapons.
In a broad daylight on March 15, 2012, the two convicted had seriously assaulted Rahim at Attavar in Mangaluru city to murder him after he supported some views of RSS leader, Kalladka Prabhakara Bhat which were condemned by some muslims groups in the district.
The court sentenced the two convicted for four year jail term along with a fine of Rs 1,00,000 under column 307. Also, the judge ordered for a six month prison for the duo with a fine of Rs 10, 000 under column 326 IPC.
