Udupi: An unidentified gang robbed Rs 4 lakh worth valuable items, cash on Saturday late night in Matsyagandha express train when they were on their way to Udupi from Thane via Konkan railway route.
The victims have been identified as Sanjeeva Shetty (61) and his wife Rathna Shetty (56), residents of Madmane-Padumane located at Inna village in Karkala taluk of Dakshina Kannada district. The couple have been admitted to a hospital in Manipal for treatment after the duo found sick.
Following an illness, Rathna was being treated for some time by a specialist at a private hospital in Mapipal. The couple was on its way to Udupi to meet her doctor in Manipal when the incident took place. The duo boarded the train in Thane at 03.40 PM on Saturday and travelled in a sleeper coach.
The incident came into light when one of the relatives of the couple, Harish Shetty who was also travelling in another coach of the same train found the duo in unconscious stage in their coach on Sunday morning after the train crossed Kundapur at around 10 AM. Harish informed the Railway police in Udupi station and admitted the couple to a private hospital in Manipal. A robbery case has been registered on the incident at Anjali polices station in Maharashtra.
Sanjeeva Shetty moved to Mumbai many years ago from his native place, Inna and worked as Pan Beeda seller. His two children are working for private companies in Mumbai.
