Mangaluru : In an reason of evidence search operation at the residence of Kalander, one of the accused in the murder of RSS worker Sharath, police allegedly ‘disrespected’ to Quran and ‘tore’ Madrasa books, said the president of United Muslims Organisation K Ashraf.
Speaking to the media persons in press conference on Monday, He urged the police department to punish the police personnel who disrespected the holy book during the search operation to collect evidence against Kalanderinconnection with the Sharath murder case.
Ashraf said, the Members of United Muslim Organization will hold protest in front of the office of Dakshina Kannada district Deputy Commissioner (DC) on September 8 to condemn alleged disrespect to quran by the police personnel.
Ashraf also clarified, the protests will be organised peacefully demanding justice inconnection with alleged disrespect to quran. The protests are aimed to oppose the move of the police who threw the holy book on the floor in the name of search and not condemn police action against the accused.
As many as 15 police personnel including SI A K Rakshith Gowda, Uppinangady SI Nandakumar and others searched the residence of Kalander in his absence during morning hours of September 2. The police scattered the belongings of the members of the accused and disrespected quran, the family members of the accused alleged in a statement soon after the search.
Meanwhile, speaking on the video taken by the police during the search operation, Ashraf said, the video has been edited by the police to save the police personnel who carried out the operation. In an attempt to end quran controversy, Dakshina Kannada District Superintendent of police, Sudheer Kumar Reddy earlier stated that there is a video showing the search operation to prove the innocence of the police.
