Mangaluru: The ‘Justice for Kavya Horata Samithi’ members and Kavya’s mother have been taken into custody by police in Mangaluru city on Saturday when they tried to hold protest march from Hampanakatta to the office of Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner (DC) demanding impartial probe into mysterious death of Alva’s student, Mangaluru resident Kavya (16).
The protest march began from Hampankatta signal, the police reportedly interrupted the procession to DC office as some protesters took off their shirts to hold a half naked march as planned.
After reaching the march at DCo gates Justice for Kavya Horata Samiti Dinakar Shetty said, we have given in writing to the police officials about holding the semi-nude protest on September 23, but the police did not allow us to hold the semi-nude protest. If they feel ashamed to see our semi-nude body let they give justice for Kavya. We are not against the investigations but we demand the authorities to reveal the post-mortem report, he said.
The protesters also urged the state government to take necessary steps to hold impartial investigation to reveal the truth behind the mysterious death of the student. The protesters alleged that the police department has failed to nab the culprits who were responsible for the death of the student at her hostel room of Alva’s institute in Moodbidri on July 20, 2017.
