Mangalore : The Public Work department, port and Inland Water Department, Mangalore Division and Karnataka Lokayukta, Bangalore organized the foundation stone laying ceremony of New Lokayukta Office Building near Zilla Panchayath office on Jan 31, Monday.
Lokayukta Justice Santhosh Hegde laid the foundation stone on the occasion; Deputy Speaker N Yogesh Bhat, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel and ZP CEO Shivashankar were present.
Later speaking after inaugurating the stage programme at Zilla Panchayath Hall said that today DK Lokayukta administration is getting a new office building and I accept and welcome it, he said.
Further the state government must provide full permission to work independent to work. If the officials get privacy, it will be functioning smoothly, he said.
Earlier, the government assured to establish the building at DC Office premises, but later said to give it near Urwa Store. If the Lokayukta office is setup near government offices, then they will have fear and knowledge on the works of the officials.
If the district administration and public have respect towards lokayukta then they can give response. During the plan of ceremony, around 500 people including the politicians supported it, but when the ceremony is held only two and half minister came considering Nagaraj Shetty as half for coming late.
Lokayukta Hegde also said that, in past 4 years, the officials have investigated 1600 trap and raid case, including even the IAS and IPS officials. From Jan 1, 2011 Saturday to Jan 30, 2011 Saturday, around 34 government officials have been arrested for accepting bribe.
The government has done various schemes to the public, but it is not reaching to the beneficiaries, due to the government officials. The Lokayukta is always against the ruling party. The State government has give around 291 new officials and further other staffs like stenographers and other staffs are required. But the governemtn is giving it in installments.
Presiding over the event, Deputy Speaker N Yogesh Bhat, said that people of DK are expecting corruption free society. Corruption is the mental problem of a person to satisfy one’s need.
He also assured the lokayukta officials to render full support in their work.
MP Nalin Kumar Kateel and B Nagaraj Shetty, chairman, Coastal Authority Department also spoke on the occasion.
Moosa Kunni Nayar Moole, inspector, Karnataka Lokayukta, Bangalore welcomed the gathering. Balakrishna of Public Works Department proposed vote of thanks.
