Mangaluru: A selfie might win you “likes” on social media but this Diwali, you could win cash awards, on one condition: the selfie has to be with a cow.
On the eve of Diwali, Hindu Jagarana Vedike Kadeshivalaya and Sri Rama Bhajana Mandira have jointly organised a ‘Selfie with Gau Mata’ competition.Shruthin Shetty, convener of Hindu Jagarana Vedike Kadeshivalaya, said the competition was organised to foster love towards cows among the youth. He said youths have been losing touch with Indian traditions and culture of which the cow is an integral part. “By holding this competition, we hope the youth touch the cattle at least once and start loving the animal,” he said.
Shetty said though the competition is targeted at the youth, anybody can participate. The event was also aimed at promoting harmony among people of all faiths, he said, adding that the competition was open to all. Contestants are required to WhatsApp the photos to 9686694300.
The last date to send the pictures is October 20. Shetty said winners would be chosen the same evening at a programme to be held at Sri Rama Bhajana Mandira in Gadiyara, Mani. Winners will be awarded a cash prize. A hamper of Patanjali products will also be awarded to promote the Make in India campaign, Shetty said.
