Ujire : The cashless transaction initiatives of Sri Kshetra Dharmastala Rural Development Project (SKDRDP) is a testimony to the fact that Digital India is possible in the nation, said Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday at Ujire.
Modi was speaking at a programme of launching digital transactions and distribution of RuPay Cards to SKDRDP Self-Help Group members at Ujire near Dharmastala on Sunday.
The Prime Minister said that D Veerendra Heggade, who set up SKDRDP, has made significant contributions in the field of skill development and rural empowerment.
“Through the launching of digital transactions for their SHG members, Heggade has proved that Digital India is possible. People criticised us when we started Digital India initiative and they said people don’t have mobile phones with them to carry out digital transactions. However, Heggade has proved through SKDRDP that it is possible in India,” Modi said.
Extending his support to Sri Kshetra Dharmastala’s campaigns for conservation of nature and preservation of water, Modi said, “It is my responsibility to protect environment and ensure water to next generation.”
The PM said he is lucky enough to felicitate Heggade. “Heggade is inspiration for crores of Indians,” he added.
Talking about the fight against corruption, Modi said “I will not allow this nation march towards destruction”.
Nearly one lakh people had gathered at Ratnavarma Heggade Stadium and six other venues in Ujire to witness Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s event. As many as 60,000 people were seated at Ratnavarma Heggade Stadium to witness Prime Minister’s event, which commenced at 11.45am, from 10am.
Arrangements with LED screens have been made at six venues in Ujire for people to watch the Prime Minister’s programme. Earlier, Modi had landed at the helipad of Dharmastala Temple at 10.50am.
Modi offered prayers to Lord Manjunatha, the presiding deity of Dharmastala Temple. He also held discussion with Heggade who is also the dharmadhikari of Sri Kshetra Dharmastala. Heggade urged the PM to include Tulu in the Schedule VIII of the Indian Constitution. Modi also felicitated Heggade on his 50th anniversary of Pattabhisheka as the head of Dharmastala Temple.
Modi, who started his address by greeting the gathering in Kannada, said he is lucky to be in Dharmastala, which is a prominent seat of God.
