Mangaluru: Mangaluru City Police have arrested three persons for stocking and selling illicit spirit near Yelyar Padavu, on Friday. They have seized 350 litres of spirit, cellphones, a car and other things worth about Rs 7,02,900 from them.

Police said acting on a tip-off, sleuths of city crim branch raided a rented house near Yelyar Padavu, stocked with 350 litres of illicit spirit in ten cans. They have arrested Denzil Vickson D’Souza, 28, resident of Yelyar Padavu; Mohan Das M Shetty, 36, Palemar House, Konaje and Bhoja Kottary, 50, resident of Munnur village. Mohan is the kingpin of illicit spirit supply, police said that he used procure spirit from Manjeshwar. Afterwhich, he would add three cans of water to each can and sell.

While Denzil has cases booked against him under excise act and another accused Mohan too was involved in illicit liquor business in the past. Arrested persons have been booked been sent to judicial custody and a case has been registered at Konaje police station.
