Mangaluru: The gala power awards 2017 held at Palace Ground, Bengaluru on October 28 saw Mangalore Electricity Supply Company (Mescom) bag a clutch of awards. Out of the 27 awards that the company bagged, the award that mattered the most was the top prize for least commercial losses recorded. This award in particular further fortified the presence of the company, which is among the top 5 discoms across India, as the leading discom in the state.
The company has also done well in major schemes such as ‘Hosa Belaku’ where it stood third. Its efforts at reducing transformer failures too saw Mescom being ranked third. Even in the integrated rankings of discoms in Karnataka conducted by the central government, Mescom was ranked third. The various divisions of Mescom bagged top three places in implementing Ganga Kalyana scheme and in implementing drinking water schemes in rural areas under rural division.
Mescom’s efforts in reducing revenue dues to the least fetched its Kavoor, Kundapur and Udupi divisions the top three places. Sri Jayadeva Electricals, Udupi was recognized best transformer repair centre. Mangaluru division 1 was ranked first for having best transformer bank. Bantwal division was ranked first for developing basic infrastructure under akrama-sakrama scheme. Thomas Gomes (Malpe) and M Nagesh (Kulshekar) were adjudged best powermen.
It was not just the company that won plaudits. Efforts by Mescom consumers in embracing rooftop solar units saw nine of them being recognized at the awards ceremony that saw chief minister Siddaramaiah and minister for energy D K Shivakumar attend. Awardees are Balakrishna Nayak M, Raghu Hegde, Chandramathi P Shetty, John D’Silva, Dr Harishchandra, Ananth Nayak, Veerendra Nayak, M/s Racko Industrial Products and B Ganapathi Hegde respectively.
Describing the 27 awards as a recognition of efforts put in by all stakeholders of the company – staff and consumers included, K Ramakrishna, managing director, Mescom told that awards has only increased responsibility of the company towards consumers. “The award for least commercial losses and consumers’ efforts in embracing green energy has certainly proved that Mescom’s priorities in being a customer oriented company is on the right path,” he said.
