Bangalore: The state government has selected Shravanabelagola seer Charukeerthi Bhattaraka Swami for the National Mahaveer Peace Award for the year 2017.
The award, instituted by the Department of Kannada and Culture, carries a purse of Rs 10 lakh and a citation,
according to an official press release.
The seer has been selected for the award in recognition of his contribution to studies in Jain philosophy, education, nature conservation and social service.
The award will be presented to the seer on December 11 by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah at an event to be held at Ravindra Kalakshetra in Bengaluru.
