Mangaluru: The Anti-Corruption Bureau arrested a senior food inspector of Puttur on charges of bribery.
The arrested is health department senior in-charge food inspector Sumanth. He was caught red-handed while seeking a bribe from a hawker.
According to the complaint, one Santhosh Acharya, who wanted to set up a fast food business, approached Sumanth for permission, however, the food inspector demanded a Rs 3,000 bribe for the same. When Santhosh protested, the officer attempted to negotiate, and fixed the bribe at Rs 2,500.
Miffed with this, Santhosh registered a complaint with the ACB, Mangaluru. In a swift action, a team led by inspector Yogeesh Kumar, along with eight personnel, raided the Puttur taluk health department office and detained Sumanth.
