Udupi: The district units of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and the Bajrang Dal have taken exception to the case filed by the police against them and leaders of Durga Vahini for holding a signature campaign against Love Jihad near MGM College Bus Stop here on January 22.
The police registered the case against the leaders of these three right-wing outfits for holding the programme without permission from any authority near the MGM College Bus Stop.
Addressing presspersons here on Wednesday, P. Vilas Nayak, president of the district unit of the VHP, said that the VHP and the other two outfits were only conducting awareness through the signature campaign.
A few students had signed on the banner. They had also distributed pamphlets on Love Jihad to a few students on the occasion.
He said that the police had bowed down to political pressure and registered a false case.
“As per our knowledge, there is no need to take permission for creating awareness and our campaign did not violate any law. If the police do not withdraw the case within a week, we will launch an intense agitation,” Mr. Nayak said.
