Mangaluru: Police training in Karnataka will be more focused and concentrated in 12 permanent police training schools (PTS) and at the Karnataka Police Academy. These schools and the academy will be strengthened in the coming weeks to enable them for handling additional recruitment load. State police will stop training in temporary PTS, Charan Reddy, Additional Director General of Police (Training and Recruitment) said.
Interacting with reporters after inspecting the passing out parade of 95 civil police constables of Bengaluru North-East and Whitefield sub-divisions of Bengaluru City Police commissionerate who underwent training at temporary PTS here on Monday, Reddy said at present each of the training school was training around 5,000 recruits. They training and recruitment wing has proposed to augment facilities that will enable these schools to train 7,000 personnel.
Last year saw marked increase in police recruitment and permanent training schools were full. Temporary police training schools were opened in Mangaluru and other centres where Superintendent of Police concerned used the local resources to train the selected personnel for a period of eight months. “We do not want to put burden on the SPs. We want the resources at the training schools and Police Academy to be put to optimal use,” Charan Reddy said.
State police has submitted proposal for sanction of Rs 200 crore for creation of more barracks and improve other facilities at the training institutions. “We have sought Rs 35 crore in the forthcoming state budget,” he said. Earlier, advising the newly-trained recruits to work responsibly and as per law, he said, “You are going to serve in the fastest growing city in India and will be under extra scrutiny from various quarters and will do justice to the uniform.”
Reddy also exhorted police officers in Dakshina Kannada to inspire people from the district join the police force. Noting that there aren’t many from DK in the police force, Reddy said it will be good to have representation from all districts for it will help in police handle problems effectively.
Reddy handed over all-round best trophy to Veeresh Veerapura and DG&IGP trophy to Manjunath DM on this occasion. IGP Hemant Nimbalkar and other senior officers were also present.
