Udupi: Vishwesha Tirtha Swami of Pejawar Mutt said on Wednesday that he would leave his mutt and serve society from outside if the State government went ahead with its reported move to acquire mutts in the State.
President of Siddaganga Mutt Siddalinga Swami has also said it was not correct to bring mutts under the Act.
Addressing presspersons, the 86-year-old Pejawar seer said the government had given ammunition to the Opposition by doing so. “This (reported) move also shows that the government is ‘anti-Hindu’. The government should desist from such a move and treat all communities equally,” he said.
The seer said if the government acquired his mutt, he would not stay in it. “I do not want to be a servant of the government,” he said.
