Karkala : Congress men V S Ugrappa said that there are all signs of the Congress retaining power, with its inheritance of qualities of ethical and social justice in comparison with the BJP, which has its core in fascist agenda.
Speaking after chairing a meeting at the Congress Bhavan, he said that the party is working out the probable candidates. Four Assembly constituencies in the district have candidates with unanimous support, while Karkala has three ticket aspirants who are supported by their followers.
Ugrappa said former MLA Gopal Bhandary, and Congress leaders Udaya Kumar Shetty and Harsha Moily are the ticket aspirants in Karkala. The matter will be reported to the High Command and the final selection will be decided by the High Command, the chief minister, the KPCCI president and veteran Congress leaders.
Udupi, Kundapur, Byndoor and Kaup Assembly constituencies will have Pramod Madhwaraj, Rakesh Malli, Gopal Poojary and Vinay Kumar Sorake as the contenders respectively. The party has a bright chances to bag all the five constituencies, he added.
Stating that the Congress and the BJP are the main contenders in the forthcoming Assembly elections, Ugrappa said that in some areas of old Mysuru Karnataka, the JD(S) will pose rivalry. “Else, it is only a straight fight between the Congress and the BJP. Following the enormous support that AICC president Rahul Gandhi is receiving in his ongoing tour of North Karnataka, there seems no doubt left over a Congress victory in state,” he said.
Censuring Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his cheap political behaviour despite of being at the helm of affairs, the MLC said the prime minister should behave like a true steersman. “If the Central government finds Congress-led state government as the most useless, then it could have invoked Article 356 against the state governments for impeachment. The prime minister has come down to a low level and his remarks like Nanga Nach itself exemplifies his calibre,” criticised Ugrappa.
He also said the BJP and its leader have totally forgotten the slums and the problems encountered by the SC/ST and the farming communities while in power.
He demanded the Central government to reveal the purchase price and other terms and conditions of the Rafale fighter deal with France to clear doubts about the controversial defence contract. “There is no other way out of this and the public should be made aware of this to clear doubts that have cropped up in the minds of people,” he said and alleged that Modi is the face of corruption and fake agenda.
