Mangaluru: Shobha Karandlaje, MP, said on Thursday that the Congress and its allies should seek an apology from the people of the country for needlessly disrupting Parliament and not allowing to it function. She was speaking at the day-long fast, organised by the BJP, as part of its nationwide protest against opposition parties not allowing the Parliament to function, in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, here.
Ms. Karandlaje said the continuous disruption by the Congress and its allies in the Parliament was anti-democratic. Prime Minister Narendra Modi considered the Parliament a temple of democracy. He wanted a healthy debate on the problems of the country during the Parliament sessions. But continuous disruption had stopped all debates in both houses and also led to a loss to the exchequer. The intransigent attitude of the Congress and its allies was why several bills were not cleared by the Parliament.
By not debating issues in Parliament, the Congress and its allies had shirked their responsibility. By sitting on a fast, the BJP wanted the Congress and its allies to realise their folly in not allowing the Parliament to function, she said.
Ms. Karandlaje said that the BJP had already sent its first list of 72 candidates for the forthcoming Assembly elections in the State. B.S. Yeddyurappa, president, BJP State unit, was campaigning for the party throughout the State. In some Assembly constituencies, there were four to eight aspirants. The list of candidates for the remaining constituencies would be released in a couple of days.
Leaders and workers who did not get tickets should not get dejected and continue to work for the party. It will resolve the disgruntlement among some workers over giving the ticket of Kundapur constituency to Halady Srinivas Shetty. The BJP had conducted a survey and based on it, tickets had been given to candidates who were expected to win in the elections.
After the BJP government came to power, the workers would be given other opportunities. It was necessary to remove the Siddaramaiah government and bring back Mr. Yeddyurappa to power in the State, Ms. Karandlaje said.
Kota Srinivas Poojary, MLC; BJP leaders Halady Srinivas Shetty, Lalaji Mendon, B.M. Sukumar Shetty, K. Udaykumar Shetty, Yashpal Suvarna, K. Suresh Nayak; Dinakar Babu, ZP president and Sheela Shetty, vice-president, were present.
