Udupi : To ensure peace in the backdrop of the forthcoming Assembly elections, Deputy Commissioner Priyanka Mary Francis and Police Superintendent Lakshman Nimbargi visited Maoist affected areas in the district.
Authorities visited the areas of Amasebailu, Jaddinagadde, Mandi Murukai, Hallihole, Jadkal and Mudur Udayanagara to verify the probable disturbances.
Nimbargi assured tight security in the areas which are considered hypersensitive. The officers held a Grama Sabha in Sulugodu in Byndoor, wherein around 200 villagers gathered. The DC and SP spoke about the importance of voting rights and also created awareness over fair and transparent polls. The officials urged the villagers not to succumb to any pressure and choose the people’s representatives of their choice. The DC administered the oath for fair and transparent voting.
The villagers expressed their inconveniences as they have no facilities like vehicles to commute to distant areas for voting, following which the DC assured to make arrangements for the remote areas on the day of voting. She said that the specially challenged voters are supported with various facilities such as wheelchairs on the day.
