Mangaluru: The 25th Shramadan of Ramakrishna Mission Swacchata Abhiyan was carried out in Highland Falnir area April 15, Sunday. Swami Jitakamanandaji of Mangalore Ramakrishna Math and Swami Teerthakaranandaji of Mysore Ramakrishna Math gave the lead early morning. Famous psychiatrist Dr Satish Rao, Moammad Shameem, Latha Shivakumar and others were present on the occasion.
Cleanliness Drive: Followed by flagging off, the swamis, dignitaries volunteers, took up the utilities, broom and startedcleaning the area. Without caring for the drizzling rains, Captain Ganesh Karnik, senior citizen volunteers too joined the Abhiyan cleaning both sides of the road and footpaths of Mother Theresa Road. Another group with Dayananda Kankanadi loaded heaps of stones and construction debris scattered on the roadsides into tippers.
Bus shelter nearby was full of garbage and mud and was a nuisance to the public waiting for the buses. Sri Dinesh Karkera and other volunteers removed the garbage and thoroughly cleaned the shelter by washing and painting thus beautifying it and benefitting the public thereby. Souraj Mangalore led the group of volunteers in removing illegal posters and hoardings. Sri Dilraj Alva coordinated the drive.
The 26 th Abhiyan: Of Swacchata Abhiyan was carried out in Marnamikatta area. Sri Suresh Shetty, Social Worker and Sri Purushottam Chitpal, Lecturer, Nitte College of Physiotherapy jointly flagged off the Abhiyan in the presence of Swami Ekagamyanandaji.
Students of Nitte College of Physiotherapy divided themselves into four groups and cleaned all the four roads leading to Marnamikatta. They cleaned the road leading towards Mangaladevi Temple, Morgan’s gate, road leading towards Nandigudda and surroundings of Marnamikatta circle. Dr Dhanesh Kumar, Principal of the college guided the students. Members of Nivedita Balaga cleaned the road and adjoining drains in Marnamikatta area. Clearance of heaps of garbage: A spot adjoining the bus shelter in Marnamikatta was full of garbage thrown by the local public and volunteers of the Abhiyan were urging the local residents and vendors not to litter in the region for the past 2-3 days.
On the Abhiyan day, Mehboob Khan, Sudhir Vamanjoor and other volunteers cleared the heaps of garbage from the area and levelled it by using JCB. Few flower pots were placed in the spot to enhance the beauty and to stop people from littering in the region.
Local shopkeepers and vendors were urged to keep the area clean and were asked to maintain the spot litter-free. Dr. Chandrashekhar, Industrialist Sandeep Shenava, Nazeer Ahmed, Chethana Gadiyar, Yogish Kayarthadka and several other volunteers actively participated in the Abhiyan.
