Mangalore : Mangalore University vice chancellor Prof T. C. Shivashankar Murthy, conferred the annual Sandesha awards on 10 achievers during award ceremony organized by Sandesha Foundation for Culture and Education at Sandesha premises at Bajjody.
The Sandesha Awards were conferred on Dr. Saa Shi Marulayya Kannada literature, Paul Moras for Konkani literature, Kukkady Vishwanath Rai Puttur for Tulu literature, Vittal Shetty for arts, M. S. Narasimha Murthy for cinema/TV, Gauri Lankesh for Journalism, Veereshwara Punyashrama for media education, and Sunith Prabhu best teaching.
Walter Albuquerque SJ was conferred with Konkani Kogul Wilfy Rebimbus Memorial Sandesha Konkani Music Award and Raymond D’Souza with Sandesha Special Recognition Award on the occasion. Each award includes a cheque for Rs. 10,000, a shawl, a citation, and a trophy.
Prof. Shivashankar Murthy, congratulated the recipients and said that the award winners are selected by a panel of judges and given to the deserving recipients.
Sandesha Director Fr. Valerian Mendonca welcomed the gathering. Dr. Aloysius Paul D’Souza, the bishop of Mangalore, presided over the programme. Galdin D’Souza, a trustee of Sandesha, proposed the vote of thanks. Manjula, the Akashavani artiste comperede the programme.
The members of the jury Richard Louis, Fr. Mark Valder, Dr. Na Da Shetty, Dr. Fr. Charles Vas, Concepta Fernandes, Joel Pereira, and others were also present.
