Bantwal : A Coastalwood film actor allegedly assaulted BJP workers with a sword in Baddakatte on Monday June 11.
It was a revenge attack, Surendra Bhandary and his gang on Monday afternoon at around 1 pm, weilded swords and allegedly attacked BJP activists Ganesh, Charan, Pushparaj and others who were in a restaurant at Baddakatte.
Surendra and his gang allegedly attempted to assault when four members were having meals at a hotel in Baddakatte on Monday. The police have filed cases against seven persons, including Surendra Bantwal and his accomplices Manohar and Prathvi.
The BJP leaders were making preparations for BJP representatives and Page Pramukhs’ convention at Bantara Bhavana in Bantwal on June 12 and had come to Baddakatte for meals.
The injured are Mani GP member Ganesh Rai, Manoj, Pushparaj Alethooru and Prakash. They have been admitted to a hospital.
The injured, in their complaint, alleged that Surendra and his gang had assaulted them and took away 36-gram gold chain, Rs 10,000 in cash and a mobile phone.
The clash began following an allegation that one Deekshith, who was working in a saloon, had posted derogatory posts on social media. BJP activists Bhuvith Shetty, Kamalaksha, Jeethu alias Jithendra and Vasanth had forcibly entered saloon on Sunday and assaulted Deekshit. The gang had also damaged the mirror in the saloon. A case in this regard was also registered.
Surendra Bantwal was identified with a right-wing organization in the past and was a rowdy-sheeter. He had joined the Congress recently. He has also acted in the Tulu film ‘Chaali Polilu’. The video showing the actor threatening with a sword and hurling expletives has gone viral in social media.
Reacting to it, SP B R Ravikanthe Gowda said, “Bhuvith Shetty’s team had assaulted the relative of Surendra Bantwal. In retaliation, Surendra had attempted to assault. An attempt to murder case has been registered. A special team has been constituted to nab the members of both the gang.”
