Udupi : The Government planing to reduce the quantity of rice supplied under Anna Bhagya scheme and increase electricity fare, the Udupi Zilla Nagarika Samithi staged a protest by pulling a bullock cart in Udupi on Tuesday.
Opposing the government move protesters began the protest from Diana Circle passed through KM Road, service bus stand, Triveni Circle and culminated at Chittaranjan Circle.
Instead of an ox, the people only pulled the cart. The participants also used cycle in the procession.
Samithi General Secretary Nityananda Olakadu carried a bag of rice and beat a hand drum (tamate) throughout the procession.
He said that the state government has neglected coastal districts in the budget and has also reduced the quantity of rice supplied to the poor under the Anna Bhagya scheme.
The excise duty on petrol and diesel has been hiked, which will affect the common man, he said.
He said the hike in electricity rate has also affected the common man.
