Mangalore: A two-day national level conference on the partnership proposed between institutions and industries, was inaugurated at Sri Gokarnanatheshwara College in city by Mangalore University Vice-Chancellor Prof.T.C. Shivashankar Murthy at 10am today.
Speaking on the occasion before a distinguished audience Prof. Murthy stressed the need for more universities with quality-based higher education. He said even 1500 are not sufficient for a vast population of 120 crores of which at least half are young people wanting to achieve something remarkable in life. 90% of the state universities in India are in Karnataka, turning out large numbers of graduates, post graduates and about 8200 Ph.Ds every year so far in India. Only qualitative teachers can provide quality education at higher levels, he explained.
Dr.B.Gangadhar welcomed the gathering and introduced the guests. Ummappa Poojary, President of University Teachers Union made introductory remarks.
A souvenir called “Confluence”was released by former Vice-chancellor, Manipal Academy, Dr.B.Monappa Hegde, who later addressed the gathering on higher education and its challenges while delivering the presidential speech.

AMUCT co-sponsed the 2-day UGC backed meet along with Gokarnanatheshwara College authorities. A crowded programme with scholars has been arranged to today and tomorrow at the venue.
