Udupi : Minister for Women and Child Welfare Jayamala, who is also the Udupi district in-charge Minister, on Thursday visited and consoled the families of the two youngsters – Kirtan Puthran and Rakesh Belwad – who were electrocuted when they stepped on a broken power line at Farangikudru, near Kemmannu in the district, on Wednesday.
“The death of these youth is unfortunate and an unbearable loss for their family members. I came to share the grief of the family members and console them,” she said.
She said the Mangalore Electricity Supply Company (Mescom) would provide an immediate compensation of ₹5 lakh each to the families of the deceased.
She directed Mescom officials to take measures to identify and replace the power lines and poles that are weak, particularly in residential areas.
