Vitla: Does a husband or his mother have right to kill an errant wife by taking a law into their own hands when there is society around and a Grama Panchayath to heart their grievances however pressing the issue may be? Such barbarous murders must be stopped immediately and the guilty persons should be pardoned on roads by SP and police in a Jeep and the press must put out their photos. This is the public reaction of those who saw what happened in Vitla Police Station when a mother-in-law and husband of a young woman hacked by knives and murdered for her alleged trespass on sex life and property matters and surrendered to the police who promptly arrested them from a Village called Ukkuda Apparipade on Thursday.
The actual reason for the dirty murder has not been established by the police from the mother and son duo, whether it is about a price of land or on account of immoral adultery by the victim Saraswathi(26), concerned.
Infact5 this should have been established immediately on the surrender of the two culprits in the latest case of homicide, perpetrated by Ravish (38) and his mother Parvathy in her sixties. The dead daughter-in-law did not want the sale of land about to be sold by these two relatives. The three had gone to the Vitla Police station with their land dispute which was nullified by a compromise formula brought about by the police officials. But Ravish was pestering his wife due to his bad habits. He had a son Lohitaksha(4) but the family quarrels continued till the killing of his wife. Ten wounds were seen on the body of Saraswathi in her fight, with a knife each handled by both women.
The mother-in-law has admitted to the guilt of murdering her daughter-in-law to the police on enquiry. A quarry owner who was close to the dead woman and witnessed the knife fight between two women was missing from the village. The husband was away at work, when the fight took place.
