Mangaluru : MP Nalin Kumar Kateel inaugurated Teachers’ Day programme organised by the district administration, Zilla Panchayat and Mangaluru North Block Education Office, at St Aloysius College in Mangaluru on Wednesday.
Speaking after inaugurating Nalin said, Teaching is not a profession but an austerity. Teachers have the responsibility to create an environment compatible for nationbuilding. If education sector becomes corrupt, the entire country will go corrupt, said MP Nalin Kumar Kateel.
He said that Indian culture has laid much significance on Guru as Guru is considered to be the person who shows the God. Guru is Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva all in one.
Kateel explained that by creating good students, Guru performs the duty of Brahma, by nurturing the good qualities of students, he performs the duty of Vishnu and by eliminating the bad qualities, he does the duty of Shiva.
Delivering the keynote address, Vijaya College, Mulki, Mathematics Department Head Prof Vijaya Kumari said that only three people can create a nation with beautiful minds – father, mother and teacher.
Teachers are the torchbearers, motivators and facilitators in the life of students. Teachers should discover the inherent talent of students, she added.
Teachers should love their subject first for effective teaching. They should keep updating their knowledge on their subjects. In every class, 10 minutes should be reserved for a discussion on moral values, she said.
Mangaluru City South MLA D Vedavyas Kamath presided over the programme. MLC Ivan D’Souza also spoke on the occasion. Mangaluru North Block Education Officer Manjula K L was present.
