Shirva: The mortal remains of the nurse Hazel Mathias, who died in Saudi Arabia has finally reached her family who were waiting to lay her to rest since 71 days. Her husband, daughter and parents burst into tears when they received her corpse at Kempegowda International airport on Thursday, September 27th.
After more than two months of waiting since her death, Hazel’s body was brought to her native place by an ambulance and placed in the mortuary at Manipal.
On Friday afternoon September 28th, Hazel’s mortal remains will be taken to the house of Ashwin Mathias, husband of deceased Hazel at Kuthyaru near Shirva, for the last prayers will to be offered at the residence. Later, the final rites and funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Health Church Shirva.
According to the information given by Fr Denis D’Sa, parish priest of Shirva church, Bishop of Udupi diocese, Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo will take part in the funeral ceremony of Hazel to be held at Shirva Church at 4 pm on Friday.
The Karnataka NRI committee which is a department of the government has granted a compensation of Rs 1 lakh to the family of the deceased.
“Public must be aware of the laws of foreign countries when they go for employment. Government and people representatives should give the same importance that is given to celebrities to common Indians also when some mishap happens overseas. Because of the efforts of Good Samaritan Denis Noronha, the body of Hazel has finally arrived at her native place,” said Fr Denis D’Sa, parish priest of Our Lady of Health church Shirva.
