Mangaluru: APD Foundation in association with Southern Railways celebrated Swachhta Hi Sewa Pakhwada, a 15 day special cleanliness drive from September 15 to October 2nd to commemorate Gandhi Jayanthi.
The program included awareness sessions to railway staff and passengers about solid waste management, making use of ‘Do Bin’ wet and dry waste dustbins in the right way. The programme included a cleanup drive with Besant College, proper sanitation and hygiene education, street play with KMC students, song performance with MBA students of SDM College, a rally and public activities.
Southern Railways Area Officer Sreedharan K. V., Station Manager Ramkumar, Chief Health Inspector Sayed Muhammed, Deputy Station Manager / Commercial Kishan Kumar and Feroze, Inspector of Railway Police Force (RPF) were present on many of the occasions. APD team members Karl D’cunha, Vanishree BR, Dhanush Desai and Thanima participated in the programmes.
The aim of the program was to educate and create awareness on the importance of proper disposal of waste (segregation of waste), sanitation and hygiene at the railway station and in trains which is a major public zone.
“We wish to inform every single citizen the need for cleanliness and the right kind of hygiene so we can all improve public health and make a better environment while travelling as well,” said Vanishree BR, resource coordinator of APD Foundation. The program concluded on the 2nd of October with a cultural performance.
