New Delhi: Indian President Prathibha D.Patil, inaugurated the Budget Session of the parliament here today, during which she urged that combating inflation in double figures and tackling corruption in all spheres of public life would be on the priority list of her national (UPA) government.
She stressed upon the need of attacking the lack of probity and absence of integrity in public life in a republic. She wanted common men to be protected from the blows of rising food prices in the open markets.
She hoped that a steady economic growth will be maintained, which can ensure the poor, disadvantaged and weak sections have a fair share in the fruits of growth by distribution. She demanded a foreign policy from Indian govt, which in global shares will protect Indian interests at large and see that Indian Voice is had to improve and its transparency enhanced. The group of ministers had to review abolition of discretionary powers enjoyed by ministers, and tackle public servants charged with corruption. Their (GoM) report is expected to come out soon, she informed.
The President admitted that India has gone through a difficult year. She referred to 100 and more lives lost in Kashmir rebellion and Maoist clashes with our armed police in Chattisgarh. She referred to cloudbursts in Ladakh (200deaths), anti-poverty schemes not reaching the poor and success of Commonwealth Games. She spoke for 45 minutes. The Budget Session will continue till April 21.
