Mangaluru: A Kannada movie, Ammachiyemba Nenapu, on the oppression of women, with dialogues in Kundapur Kannada, will hit screens in the State on November 1. It is based on three stories by Vaidehi, a Kannada writer.
Kundapur Kannada is spoken only in Kundapur taluk and adjacent areas in Udupi district. Actor and director Raj B. Shetty, who shot into fame with the film Ondu Motteya Kathe, has played a key role in the film. The story is based on Ammachiyemba Nenapu, Akku and Puttammatte mattu Mommagalu – stories written by Ms. Vaidehi in the 80s and 90s.
Addressing presspersons here on Monday, Champa Shetty, director, said Ms. Vaidehi wrote the dialogue and six songs in the movie. One song is in Kundapura Kannada. The music direction is by Hindustani musician Kashinath Pattar.
Most actors in the movie have a background in theatre. It will be released in 45 multiplexes and in five theatres across the State. The movie has been shot in Karnire village, near Padubidri in Udupi district.
Geetha Surathkal, an actor, said that another film Harikatha Prasanga with dialogues in Kundapur Kannada was screened only at film festivals and not theatres. Kundapur Kannada has been used in the tele film Akku and short film Daali.
