Madikeri : The Tipu Jayanti Virodhi Horata Samithi, Kodava Makkada Koota, BJP, Bajrang Dal, VHP and Hindu Jagarana Vedike members opposing Tipu Jayanti celebrations, the district administration and police are on high alert in the district.
The police have already warned of initiating legal actions against any attempt to disrupt peace in the district.
Tipu Jayanti Virodhi Horata Samithi district convener Abhimanyu Kumar said, “The residents of Kodagu district are already in distress following massive landslides and floods.” He appealed to the authorities to drop the proposal on observing Tipu Jayanti.
The police have already issued notices to several people who have opposed the celebrations. They were asked to appear before Somwarpet, Virajpet and Madikeri Tahsildars and were warned against disrupting peace. Bonds regarding the same were collected from those who were identified in the rowdy list.
It may be recalled that Tipu Jayanti celebrations in Kodagu district had turned violent on November 10, 2015, in which two people had lost their lives. There was stiff opposition to Tipu Jayanti in 2016 and 2017 as well.
Both DC P I Sreevidya and SP Suman D Pennekar have convened a peace meeting with Muslim and Hindu leaders.
The police will set up check posts at Maldare, Kutta, Anechowkooru, Siddapura, Koppa, Shirangala, Kodlipete, Shanivarasanthe and Sampaje.
“No permission will be given for public meetings. Tipu Jayanti will be observed at the auditorium inside Old Fort premises. Prohibitory order will be clamped in the district on November 10 and 11,” sources in the police.
