Mangaluru: City Police Commissioner T.R. Suresh on Friday directed his personnel to launch a special drive against the crew of city buses, particularly those plying on Route No. 15 (Mangaladevi-Surathkal), who refuse to issue tickets and behave rudely with passengers.
Interacting with presspersons after the weekly phone-in programme here, Mr. Suresh said there have been a number of complaints about the non-issue of tickets in city buses, particularly on Route No. 15.
He asked Deputy Commissioners Hanumantharaya (Law and Order) and Uma Prashanth (Crime and Traffic) to deploy personnel, both from law and order as well as traffic police stations, to conduct the drive.
The Commissioner asked the personnel to initially levy fines on the erring crew and seize the buses if they continue to disobey the law.
Meanwhile, a woman from St. Agnes complained that the crew of a bus, she boarded plying on Route No. 15 from Agnes to Surathkal, made her deboard at Lal Bagh and get into another bus on the same route. Mr. Suresh promised to take action against the crew concerned.
A caller from Vamanjoor complained that he fell from the scooter and sustained major injuries to avoid a speeding bus because of the sharp edge of the road. The caller also said city and service buses on Mangaluru-Moodbidri Road compete with each other thereby endangering public life.
While promising to curtail dangerous driving, Mr. Suresh urged the caller to file a police plaint against the civic agency for the bad condition of the road.
A caller from Kavoor urged the police to enforce traffic discipline at Kavoor Junction on Airport Road where vehicles ply at high speeds. Mr. Suresh asked his personnel to consider erecting a speed breaker on Kavoor Road where it joins Airport Road. Responding to another call from a hospital employee in Deralakatte, Mr. Suresh said the police would ask KSRTC to operate services between Thokkottu and Vitla via Drealakatte.
The caller grieved that there was no KSRTC service on the route.
Responding to calls about unscientific speed breakers at kuntikana and Gurupura, the Commissioner said they would be set right immediately.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (Traffic) M. Manjunatha Shetty, Traffic Police Inspectors Amanulla and Shivaprakash and others were present.
