Mangaluru : English Association of University College, Mangaluru, celebrated Martyrs’ Day by paying tribute to Mahatma Gandhi through music and paintings on the occasion of his death anniversary, at Ravindra Kalabhavan on Wednesday.

Principal M.A. Uday Kumar inaugurated the event titled ‘Remembering the Mahatma and martyrdom’. Vidhwan Gurudas Shenoy and troupe paid tribute to the Mahatma with music. Vidwan Shenoy was accompanied by Taranath Joshi on sitar, Raghunath Prabhu on tabla, Manish Das on lamburi, Gurudas Shenoy on harmonium, and Shanta Adiyar as co-singer. Akashavani and Doordarshan aired the programme.

Famous artistes painted Mahatma Gandhi in their own style. The event displayed 104 such cards with the name of the artist (four were with quotations).
