Mangaluru: Total 100 schools in Karnataka and Six government Kannada schools from undivided Dakshina Kannada are among have been selected for the prestigious heritage tag.

All these six schools are over a century old and have good student enrolment. In the first phase, the government, through the department of public instructions, will release Rs 2.5 lakh for their development and upgradation. The aim of the tag is to preserve as well as develop them for future generations.

Sheshashayana K, DDPI, Udupi, said the district has 64 schools which have completed 100 years and of these, Board High School, Kundapura; Kuvempu Model Higher Primary School, Thekkatte and Brahmavara Primary School have been selected. “The government has selected them based on enrolment. The grants released in the first phase for development and restoration will reach the respective SDMCs and they will undertake necessary work,” he said.

Of over 1,000 schools in the state which have completed 100 years, 75 primary and 25 high schools have been selected for the tag.
