Mangaluru : The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national spokesperson Meenakshi Lekhi said, Opposition party politicising the Pulwama attack.

Speaking to the mediahere on Sunday, Lekhi said that it is only answering the questions raised by the Opposition.

Ms. Lekhi said: “Those who wanted to use (Pulwama) attack for political reasons are the ones who are blaming us for politicising the response because they know that non-responsiveness at the time of 26/11 attack is what the country is faced with.”

She said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his team have shown the courage and conviction that people expected. “They know the answer that how it (Balakot attack) has impacted the psyche of this nation,” she said and accused the Opposition of politicising the issue by constantly questioning the government’s actions in defending the country. The Opposition unnecessarily questioned the procurement of Rafale jets when nothing was wrong, she said.

Distancing the party from the recent statement of the BJP State president B.S. Yeddyurappa that the Balakot strike will help the BJP win 22 Lok Sabha seats in the State, Ms. Lekhi said that it was his personal statement and nothing to do with the party.

Taking exception to a statement reportedly made by Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy that the BJP celebrating the Balakot strike will lead to communal tension, Ms. Lekhi said that Mr. Kumaraswamy is underestimating the power of Indians. People from all communities, including Muslims, will take the side of India and not of the enemy nation.

Dismissing Mr. Kumaraswamy’s allegations that the BJP was relying on doctored videos, Ms. Lekhi said: “Doctored videos are circulated by the ones who do not follow the path of truth. We have the truth behind us and that is what we back [our statements] with.”
