Bangalore: A third standard student, Akshay – the only son of Muniraju, the resident of J. P. Nagar second stage got electrocuted in the premises of the school, St. Francis Convent School at Jambusavari Dinne. The Police personnel have arrested the head of the school managing committee, Elisa so far. They said that they are continuing with the investigation and if found necessary, more would be arrested if they are found to be negligent.
After the summer holidays, Akshay had stepped into the school for the first time, when he was electrocuted. It later transpired that lights had been fitted to the stairs of the school and one of the wires connecting the lights had got severed and come in contact with the iron grill attached to the stairs. As Akshay held the railing when going up the stairs, he got killed. The students near Akshay were overtaken by fear as Akshay let out loud cry and fell down. Luckily they did not support Akshay as this would have exposed them to the danger of getting electrocuted, the police said. The school staff who came running, also did not know what to do as they realized that electricity was flowing through his body. One of them thereafter picked a wooden stick, separated Akshay from the railing and took him to a private clinic. The doctor there asked them to take Akshay to a hospital as his condition was serious. By the time he was taken to a hospital, he was no more.
The police also had requested Bangalore Electricity Supply Company to provide them a report about the cause of the accident. The Bescom officials replied that the company is responsible for power connection till the electricity meter and thereafter the school authorities are responsible. The police said that more arrests are likely in this case.
