Mangaluru: Mangaluru Police on Tuesday morning opened fire at a rowdy sheeter when he allegedly assaulted Police Inspector to evade arrest.

The rowdy sheeter identified as Bhavith Raj is accused of assaulting the driver of a goods vehicle at Kankanady here.

Mangaluru Police Commissioner said that they were forced to open fire in self-defense as Bhavith assaulted the inspector when he went to arrest him.

A team of police personnel of Kankanady police had waylaid the accused’s car near Adyar here. When the inspector went to arrest Bhavith he and two other persons launched a murderous assault on the police personnel. while police managed to arrest Bhavith the other two managed to flee the spot, he informed.

There are 4 accused in thiscase. One is Bhavit Raj who is rowdy sheeter and has 8 cases against him.
Second is Sandesh who has 2 cases and is also accused in Basheer murder case of Kavoor PS.
Third accused is Sanath, another accused is Ashwath whose bike was used for the offence. Bike is also recovered.

The commissioner also added that Bhavith was a rowdy sheeter and had eight cases registered against him.
